Duties will include:

Operating manual and semi-automatic processing machinery for stainless steel bars and sections which will be:

  • Cold drawn on a bar to bar draw bench
  • Sawn using an abrasive blade
  • Straightening of bars through a set of rolls
  • Bump straightening of bars by eye
  • Machining of bars to make ready for the cold drawing process
  • Shot blasting of the bars
  • Cleaning of bars through associated heated and non-heated tanks
  • Preparation of bars in heated tanks for cold drawing process
  • Automatic cut-off saw operation
  • Polishing of flat, square and hexagon bars
  • Operating a cut to length line taking 25 ton coils of sheet into specific sheet sizes
  • Cold drawing rod in coil into bars
  • Operating a sectional straightening machine for sectional bars such as square, rectangle and hexagon in shape
  • Overhead crane operating training
  • FLT training
  • Training in using micrometre and Vernier
  • Inspection training

Future prospects

Upon completion of the apprenticeship there will be a review of the apprentices' progress and if potential has been shown there will be opportunities in the future to progress within the company.

Things to consider

An assessor from In-Comm Training & Business Services will visit the successful candidate once a month for a period of 15 months in order to deliver the qualification. You will also be required to attend college - In-Comm Training Services in Aldridge, Walsall WS9 8UG, one day per week for the duration of the training

You must be aged 19+ for this particular apprenticeship due to company insurance purposes
