We are looking for one Engineering Technician, to work in our business in Aldridge.

It is essential that you have a practical hands-on approach to completing these tasks and you will need good organisational skills to enable you to manage the range of tasks competing for attention.

At the training centre you will be studying subjects to give you the appropriate knowledge and skills to carry out these tasks such as Basic Maintenance Procedures and Techniques, CNC Programming, CAD/CAM, and Lean methodology to name a few.

MES boast a wide range of state-of-the-art machinery including CNC lathes and Mills with live tooling, Sliding head (star machines), Induction heated hot forge presses, Internal rolling and grinding.

Alongside our investment into production machine tools we have also invested into PMI XRF guns, Keyance optical inspection equipment and European origin finished/part finished stock.

This position will be best suited to applicants with good practical skills and an interest in engineering-based projects.

Main duties include:


  • Mellish produces induction heated hot forgings in a wide variety of materials, from standard petrochemical grades all the way through to the more exotic Nickel Alloys
  • With full pyrometer control and years of hot forging experience Mellish can offer you strength, consistency and high quality in all forged bolting
  • All hot forged bolting starts at 10mm diameter through to 70mm diameter  and up to 800mm in length. Due to Mellish's fully equipped toolroom all styles of head configurations can be offered. These include the following examples: - Hexagon/Socket/Countersunk/12 point (ferry head/bi-hexagon)/Flanged/Tee/Cup Square and all accompanying nuts to suit


  • CNC turning and milling is at the heart of Mellish's production capabilities with year on year investment in innovation and technology. With the capability to machine components from 12mm diameter through to 300mm diameter and up to 2 metres long, MES can service and supply many different and diverse industries, Whether it is a one-off prototype or pallet loaded batch quantity you can be assured that MES has the capabilities and know-how to deliver. On a daily basis MES manufactures: bolts, nuts, cap screws, studs, washers and machined components such as spacers, shafts, fully-machined castings and forgings, in all carbon, stainless and high performance nickel alloys


  • Here at MES our sliding head cell offers 7-axis twin-spindle Star machines
  • This technology allows MES to offer high levels of quality and continuity across medium to large quantities with competitive prices and sensible delivery times.
  • The Sliding Head cell can run without an operator for sustained periods of time allowing MES to run the cell across two production shifts 7 days a week if required, (on suitable components) - ideal for medium to large batches of fasteners and machined components

Desired qualifications

3 or more GCSEs at Grade 4/C equivalent or above, particularly in maths, English and Science.

Future prospects

Following your apprenticeship you may be offered a permanent CNC programmer or other technical role.

Things to consider

Once your apprenticeship has finished you may be expected to work shifts - day and afternoon shifts.
