What is the purpose of this role?

  • To be trained to do the same post as a Nursery Practitioner
  • To contribute a high-quality caring environment for children. This includes creating warm, friendly and stimulating atmosphere in which the children can develop emotionally, socially and educationally through individual attention and group activities

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Attend college and completing assignments on time
  • To attend Room and Staff meetings and imputing ideas
  • Under supervision, provide all aspects of care for children including washing, changing and feeding
  • To assist with meeting the personal and emotional needs of individual children
  • To provide adult interaction with children in the nursery
  • To be aware of the nurseries policies and procedures and ensure they are adhered to
  • To be aware of who our safeguarding officer and health and safety officer are

Teamwork:

  • Support all staff and engage in a good staff team
  • To attend ALL out of working hours activities, e.g. training, monthly staff meetings, parents’ evenings, etc.
  • To input and contribute to ideas regarding implementation of policies and procedures such as Early Years Foundation Stage

General:

  • Contribute to good standards of hygiene and cleanliness in the nursery
  • To undertake such other duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature, as may be determined by the trainee’s supervisor from time to time
  • The duties must at all times be carried out in compliance with the nursery’s Equal opportunity Policy
  • Look upon the children as a “whole” where can your help be most utilised? Be constantly aware of the needs of the children
  • To respect the confidentiality of information received
  • To ensure the provision of a high-quality environment to meet the needs of individual children from differing cultures and religious backgrounds, and stages of development
  • To be aware of the high profile of the nursery and to uphold its standards at all times
  • To be aware of all fire and evacuation procedures
  • To be aware of sections 7 and 8 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
  • To understand that as part of training you will be required to move to other departments in the nursery to gain knowledge and experience of all age ranges.
  • To be flexible in hours and duties in order to meet the needs and requirements of the nursery
  • All staff have a duty to safeguard and protect children from harm, neglect and abuse by following the child protection policy and updating their knowledge often. Ensuring they are aware of the Child Protection Officer and liaise with the Child Protection Officer when appropriate

Desired qualifications

GCSE A*-C (9-4) in maths and English or equivalent are preferred but not essential.

A L2 Childcare qualification would be advantageous if wanting to do the L3 childcare qualification.

Future prospects

For all candidates (Level 2 or Level 3), there is the potential to be offered a full-time Nursery Practitioner position. Ability to progress within the company with time and experience.

About the employer

2017 was a very exciting year for the Mulberry Bush as we started building our brand new, bespoke nursery setting in Bitterne Park! The new nursery will be open in spring of 2018 and will be a landmark building for the area providing full day care for children aged 3 months – 5 years throughout the year (51 weeks).

The nursery offers a beautiful and rich environment for children. With spacious rooms full of natural light, bespoke sensory rooms for each age group and a stunning 500m2 garden.
