Main duties:

  • Customer service on the butchery counter
  • Cleaning to food safety standards
  • Understanding different cuts of meat
  • Understanding of how to cook different cuts of meat
  • Preparing different cuts of meat for display
  • Packing individual meat products for display
  • Production of value added meat products
  • Price and date checking of meats and meat products
  • Keeping the work area clean, tidy and free from debris
  • Cleaning at the end of the shift
  • Working in a team

Future prospects

  • Qualify as a butcher within the meat department and take on a full time position at the end of the training if suitable and a position is available

Things to consider

  • 40 hours over 5 days often will be Saturday and Sunday
  • The role may be physically demanding
