    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

First Steps Nursery in Fulwood has a great opportunity for a Level 3 Apprentice to join their team to work in their baby room. If you are looking to progress from Level 2 and have experience working within a childcare setting, then this could be the right job for you!

The ideal candidate will have the ability to work as part of a professional childcare team, be able to motivate children and form trusting relationships with the children and their families. You will work alongside the Manager and staff team to ensure that the philosophy and the objectives of the Nursery are met consistently on a daily basis.

The Apprenticeship training for this vacancy will be provided by Runshaw College. As this is a funded Apprenticeship programme it is not open to candidates who have already achieved a qualification at Level 4 or above.

Desired skills

The ideal candidate must be able to work in a team and use their own initiative. You must have previous experience of working within a Childcare setting.

Personal qualities

The ideal candidate must be reliable and enthusiastic and have a genuine passion for working with children.

Qualifications required

Candidates must have achieved a Level 2 in Childcare and have at least 4 GCSE grades A*-C including maths and English Language (or equivalent).

You will also be required to provide references and complete a DBS check.

About the employer

First Steps Nursery was originally established in 1991 and was taken over by the current owners in 2004. During this time, the setting was extensively modernised and refurbished to provide a more open plan and child friendly environment. Our nursery welcomes all young children whatever their cultural, ethnic, religious or social backgrounds with or without additional needs. We are open Monday to Friday from 8.00am to 6.00pm throughout the year, closing only for Bank Holidays, and during the Christmas and New Year period
