    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Working as an apprentice instructor alongside trained and qualified outdoor instructors.  Activity centres work with children, teenagers and young adults on a variety of programmes so instructors need to be adaptable in working with and relating to people of all ages and making sure the programme suits a particular group. The role of instructors is a full on position where you need to be enthusiastic, supportive to team members, knowledgeable of sports and able to communicate effectively with the team you are instructing. 

  • Planning and preparation of outdoor programme delivery and/or classroom based training sessions alongside staff of a relevant level of qualification or experience
  • Delivery of activities for which you hold the appropriate qualifications, or for which you have been in-house assessed, and assisting alongside staff of a relevant level of qualification or experience
  • Promoting and enabling social development opportunities.

As an Apprentice you will be included on a Activity Leadership Qualification.

Your Qualification will be delivered by an Award Winning Training Provider who will support your learning and development throughout your Apprenticeship.

This will involve a Vocational Learning Advisor coming to visit you on a regular basis to deliver the training and guide you through your Apprenticeship.

Things to consider

The learners will be assisting qualified instructor on activity sessions ranging from climbing, mountain biking, walking and canoeing. Days can be long and physical and also mentally demanding with regards they type of clients we work with.
