Duties will involve:

  1. To work closely with other practitioners to assist with the delivery of all areas of the EYFS in order to meet the learning interest and needs of all the children.
  2. To help set up the playrooms for the daily routine taking into account children’s interests, language, and cultural backgrounds, and to help tidy away at the end of the session, ensuring that all toys and equipment are clean and safe at all times.
  3. To assist with carrying out daily risk assessments and regular fire drills.
  4. To act as a key person to a small group of children, liaising closely with parents and ensuring each child's needs are recognised and met.  Provide constructive feedback on children’s progress/achievements on a daily basis and through regular parent meetings.
  5. To comply with and assist with the development of policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to senior management.
  6. To be aware of any special needs a child may have and to familiarise oneself with relevant play and contribute to IEP targets and to IEP reviews that have been set by the nursery SENCO.
  7. To attend staff meetings and take part in relevant training.
  8. To attend in-service training courses and meetings as required.
  9. To keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff that is acquired as part of the job.
  10. To keep up-to-date with current good practice and publications.
  11. To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the manager, in accordance with the nursery’s  objectives.
  12. To supervise children in the outside play areas.
  13. To provide support for children’s emotional and social needs by encouraging and modelling positive behaviour in accordance to the settings Behaviour Policy.
  14. To also encourage children to interact and work together.
  15. Assist in meeting all the emotional, physical and social needs of the children whilst they are present at the nursery.
  16. Encourage and promote the physical, intellectual, social, emotional, cultural, spiritual and moral development of each individual child.
  17. Assist with maintaining daily records regarding feeding and sleeping patterns of children.
  18. To maintain good attendance records at college.
  19. Carry out coursework and maintain deadlines in relation to NVQ out of working hours.
  20. Listen to Parental needs and establish communicative, fair relationships with them.
  21. Prepare activities for the following day under the instruction of your Mentor when necessary.
  22. Be an efficient and effective member of the team.

Things to consider

Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage (ANMW): The National Minimum Wage for Apprentices is £3.40 per hour from 1st October 2016. This is the legal minimum pay per hour applying to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship. For apprentices 19 or over who have completed their first year and are continuing their apprenticeship, the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies.
