At work you will be completing duties such as:

  • Meeting and greeting clients
  • Offering and making clients drinks
  • Reception duties and general cleaning

As you progress in your apprenticeship you will start to gain more responsibilities such as:

  • Shampooing and styling
  • Blow-drying
  • Colour and cutting techniques

An ideal candidate will have excellent customer service skills, communication skills and time-keeping skills. 

Personal qualities

The ideal candidate will have a passion for Hairdressing, can use their initiative and will be polite and punctual. 

Desired qualifications

There are no required qualifications for entry. However, if you do not have GCSEs at grades 4/C or above (or equivalent) in maths and/or English then you will be required to complete maths and/or English functional skills as part of your training programme. 

Future prospects

When you have completed your level 2 Hairdressing, there is the possibility to progress onto level 3 Hairdressing and/or level 2 Barbering. 

Things to consider

You may be asked to work occasional late evenings, especially busy periods such as Christmas. You will usually be required to work on a Saturday.

You must consider the travel time/expenses to get to the salon and college. You will be paid minimum wage for apprentices.

Level 2 Hair Professional apprenticeship standard, which includes:

  • Level 2 Diploma for Hair Professionals (Hairdressing)
  • Functional skills in maths and English (if required)

Your full training will take place at The Link Training Academy, you will take part in practical sessions in the training salons and theory work in the classrooms.

You will have your own personal tutor that will complete regular reviews with you, setting targets and discussing your progress, your tutor will be in regular contact with your employer, to support them throughout the apprenticeship.
