Wages explained
The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Working week

5 days per week which will include every Saturday. Earliest start 7am, latest finish 4pm

Role will consist of:

  • Preparing, cooking and serving food and drinks.
  • Customer service, including taking payment, table service and taking telephone orders.
  • Adhering to Safe Food handling requirements.
  • Ensuring food safety records are kept up to date.
  • Re-stocking and maintaining stock levels.
  • Daily cleaning and generally maintaining cleanliness of a 5 star Food Hygiene rated Cafe.

Work all day every Saturday. Hard work, can be tiring (but fun). Challenging when very busy.

About the employer

Independent Café serving traditional breakfasts, cobs, jacket potatoes, paninis, chips and burgers. Eat-in and take-away/delivery. Owned by husband and wife for over 11 years, now run by wife Suzanne with 3 staff. Lively & friendly café with very varied customer base.
