The learner would be expected to contribute a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for children placed within the setting.  A room leader plays an important role within the care of young children, where you must showcase a variety of planning and organising both fun and educational activities for the children. An apprentice room leader performs many of the following tasks:

  • Supervising children at all time
  • Engaging children in learning and education activities
  • Keeping and updating records
  • Working with team members
  • Maintaining a high standard of operation
  • Attending staff meetings

  • A good working knowledge of the EYFS and safeguarding policies would be an advantage.

On completion of the Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People's Workforce, you may be offered a permanent position with the nursery.

Things to consider

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY • This role is physically demanding as you will be working with children for the majority of your day. You will need to speak to parents and other staff. You will have to fill in paperwork on a daily basis and will be required to take children out of the setting when necessary. • You will be required to meet with Smart Training in person as part of your application process, and to help you with your career development. • Interviews will be carried out before the closing date, and a start date arranged as soon as possible. • A DBS check will be required. • This role carries the apprenticeship national minimum wage, although the nursery may offer more, subject to skills and experience. • Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage (ANMW): The National Minimum Wage for Apprentices is £3.40 per hour from 1st October 2016. This is the legal minimum pay per hour applying to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship. For apprentices 19 or over who have completed their first year and are continuing their apprenticeship, the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. • The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent training

Training provider

Apprentice Nursery Nurse will be employed up to 40 hours per week.  Your employer will appoint a work based mentor to support you and you will also get a dedicated Training Manager from Smart Training. On completion of this apprenticeship, you will be awarded a Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People's Workforce, Level 2 Functional Skills qualifications in Maths, English and ICT and an Employer Rights and Responsibilities qualification.
