    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Some experience and confidence working with horses is essential in this role.

Personal qualities

  • The successful candidate is required to be motivated, reliable and have some experience around horses.
  • We require a person who is confident around horses, is cheerful and willing to learn. 
  • Opportunities to ride for the more competent rider.
  • We require someone with transport.

Qualifications required

GCSES English and Maths or equivalent are desirable however not essential as Functional Skills are offered as part of the Apprenticeship Framework.

Future prospects

The candidate will have the opportunity to become a top class groom as we have a variety of horses on the yard from happy hackers to top dressage and jumping horses. Opportunities to travel to shows if interested in this aspect . Training will be given in the management of brood mares, foals , yearlings to the mature competition horse. A hard working, interested candidate will have the opportunity in the future to help in the management of the yard. Riding a possibility for the right candidate with training available from myself a BS coach.

Things to consider

We require someone who has access to private transport due to the location of this employment. Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage (ANMW): From October 1st 2016 The National Minimum Wage for Apprentices is £3.40 per hour. This is the legal minimum pay per hour applying to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship. For apprentices 19 or over who have completed their first year and are continuing their apprenticeship, the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies.
