    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Day to day duties will include setting up and carrying out activities for the children, observing children and updating the children's developmental records. Also carrying out general hygiene and cleaning duties, and following the nursery policies and procedures at all times to ensure the safety of all children and staff.

Future prospects

On completion of the Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People's Workforce, you may be offered the opportunity to progress on to the Level 3 Diploma for children's learning and development Early Years Educator (EYE).

Things to consider

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY : • This role requires you to be physically active working with children for the majority of your day. You will need to speak to parents and other staff. You will have to fill in paperwork on a daily basis and will you be required to take children out of the setting when necessary. • You will be required to meet with Smart Training in person as part of your application process, and to help you with your career development. • Interviews will be carried out before the closing date and a start date will be arranged as soon as possible. • A DBS check will be required. Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage (ANMW): The National Minimum Wage for Apprentices is £3.40 per hour from 1st October 2016. This is the legal minimum pay per hour applying to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship. For apprentices 19 or over who have completed their first year and are continuing their apprenticeship, the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. • The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent training

Training provider

A Nursery Nurse will be employed for up to 40 hours per week. Your employer will appoint a work based mentor to support you and you will get a dedicated training manager from Smart Training.



On completion of your training you will be awarded a Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young Peoples Workforce, Level 1 Functional Skills qualification in Maths and English and an Employment, Rights and Responsibilities qualification.
