    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

As a childcare apprentice you will gain valuable experience in a learning environment, supporting children and helping them reach their potential. You will work in a diverse environment and develop the skills needed to progress and achieve within a childcare setting.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • To work along side Nursery Practitioners and assistants whilst contributing to the delivery of quality childcare provision.
  • To help support the provision to be an inclusive, secure learning environment for young children.
  • To maintain effective relationships with parents, carers and staff in order to meet the needs of children and contribute to the assessment of children's needs and care to support their development.

  • To have experience working within a childcare setting.(although this is not an essential skill).

Qualifications required

To have obtained Grade C and above in English and Maths or equivalent. Please note that support may be offered to candidates who are just below grade C depending on assessment results.

Future prospects

Successful candidates may have the opportunity to progress onto a level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship or even employment, once the apprenticeship is successfully complete.

About the employer

Little Angels is a home from home nursery. The nursery opened in Sept 2002 and is located in the Huyton area of Liverpool. Little Angels is a purpose built nursery offering 61 places for children under five; the 0-1 room has 9 places, the 1-2 room has 12 places, the 2-3 room has 12 places and the 3-5 room has 16 places down stairs and 12 upstairs.

  • You will be trained by our highly skilled and qualified assessors, who will guide you through your apprenticeship in order for you to achieve.
  • An intermediate (level 2) qualification in Childcare.
  • English Functional Skill.
  • Maths Functional Skill.
  • ICT Functional Skill.

Please note: you will only need to complete the above Functional Skills, if you do not already have them or if you have not already achieved GSCE within each subject.
