    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Estio Training has an exciting new vacancy for an Apprentice ICT Technician based in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.

Castle Hill School caters for pupils with complex needs, including profound and multiple learning difficulties, severe learning difficulties, and those with multi-sensory impairment. The pupils range in age from 3-19 years. Please see our website for more information. Working as part of the ICT Support team the post holder will assist the team to ensure the continuous, safe and efficient operation of the school’s curriculum network. This role will enable the postholder to gain experience and new skills within a busy School ICT Team. The role will involve working with students, teachers and support staff on a daily basis promoting the use of ICT across the curriculum.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The apprentice will assist and develop skills in the following areas:-

  • Configuring and deploying software across the network
  • Managing user accounts and workstations
  • Ensuring the security of the network by installing antivirus software and windows updates
  • Setting up and maintaining staff and student email accounts
  • Developing and promoting use of the school VLE and website
  • Supporting a wide range of software and advising on its best use
  • Troubleshooting and repairing IT equipment to component level
  • Solving problems with printers, projectors and interactive whiteboards
  • Liaising with suppliers to arrange the repair of equipment
  • Performing equipment audits and updating the inventory as required
  • Keeping track of and prioritising ICT support requests
  • Ensuring ICT Rooms and equipment are fit for purpose
  • Offering IT support in lessons as requested by staff
  • Following relevant health and safety procedures
  • Escalating issues where appropriate

Things to consider

Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage (ANMW): The National Minimum Wage for Apprentices is £3.30 per hour (From October 1st 2016 this will be increasing by 3% to £3.40 per hour). This is the legal minimum pay per hour applying to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship. For apprentices 19 or over who have completed their first year and are continuing their apprenticeship, the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. **Please note these dates should be used as a guideline only, should the right applicant be found the vacancy may close early**

Training provider

The Estio Training IT Apprenticeship programme gives young people the opportunity to get hands on experience in the IT industry whilst still employed in a real paid job with no cost or debt.

Learners will receive 7 weeks of intensive training. Whilst in the workplace, apprentices will also receive continual assessment, and help and guidance from a dedicated trainer who will be there to ensure that they get the most from their work experience.
