Day to day tasks invole:

The safe use of all tools, plant and materials having due regard for own safety using Personal Protective Equipment provided and maintaining the safety of others in accordance with The Health & Safety at Work Act (1974)

• Appropriate waste management in conjunction with all tasks undertaken

Desirable/Essential Qualities

• Motivated, enthusiastic, keen to learn and able to work as part of a team as well as on their own initiative.

• Applicants to be polite, punctual, honest and trustworthy and with genuine interest in construction

• Not essential but preferred with a current driving licence

NVQ – Construction Operations and Civil Engineering

All apprentices receive an NVQ induction whilst at college and meet their Assessor. They are given a Construction Operatives Learner Pack which gives them all the information regarding their NVQ and the assessment process. The pack contains a Site Diary that must be completed as evidence for their assessment there are 4 sections of information required;

• Establishing Work Area Protection and Safety in the Workplace, 21 questions to be answered in detail about a job the apprentice has worked on and brief details of 2 other jobs.

• Placing and Finishing Non-Specialist Concrete in workplace, 20 questions to be answered in detail about a job the apprentice has worked on and brief details of 2 other jobs.

• Reinstating Ground Conditions in the Workplace, 16 questions to be answered in detail about a job the apprentice has worked on and brief details of 2 other jobs.

• Installing Drainage in the Workplace, 16 questions to be answered in detail about a job the apprentice has worked on and brief details of 2 other jobs.

The NVQ Assessor will visit the apprentice on site and discuss the above, observe them working and give feedback on their progress towards achieving the NVQ.

Apprenticeship timescale – 24 months

16 weeks in College usually completed within first year of apprenticeship

Block release which can either be 3 blocks -  2 x 5 weeks and 1 x 6 weeks, or 4 blocks of 4 weeks.
