    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

As part of your role in developing your skills you will be required to learn all aspects of becoming a hairdresser. Your roles will include:

  • Making drinks for clients
  • Answering the telephone & booking appointments
  • Taking payments
  • Shampooing and Conditioning
  • Learning how to Blow dry and style hair
  • Learning how to mix colours, how to do allergy tests before colouring hair
  • You will also be taught how to sell hairdressing products in a friendly way

Training provider

Full training will be provided on an ongoing daily basis and when required. You will be required to attend college premises 1 day a week working towards a NVQ L2 Hairdressing qualification. An assessor will be allocated to you to progress/help you through you course. Continual assessment for NVQ’s coupled with assignments/or exams depending on course of study. Time spent training will be part of the agreed contracted hours of the working week.
