Description of vacancy

The role will include working alongside our teams on project sites, predominantly in the ports and marine environment, working on the maintenance and moving of large machinery, cranes and structures.

You will learn the engineering principles and knowledge of moving and lifting large loads as well as mechanical installation principles.

The practical work experience will extend to the project offices and workshops to give a full rounded work experience that supports the gaining of a nationally recognised qualification.

Description of regular activities

  • Working amongst the rigging team to assist with the lift and moving of large machinery, structures and objects
  • Working amongst the fitting team to assist with the installation of machinery, equipment and mechanical objects
  • Working with the welding and fabrication team to assist with the construction of equipment and structural objects
  • Working amongst the project team to gain a wider understanding of the full business cycle from quotation to design and delivery

How will I learn?

  • The performance units (NVQ) are entirely practical-based and assessed in the workplace
  • The knowledge units (Technical Certificate) are delivered in the college and assessed by a combination of online assessments, short answer questions and written assignments

How will I be assessed?

  • Assessment in the workplace plus a competence based external assessment; this knowledge can be delivered in the workplace or with the employer if required
