You will gain valuable on the job experience and your typical duties will include:

  • To ensure the lesson programs are safe and appropriate to the needs/abilities of the participants involved and provide supervision and assistance to all participants.
  • Present and conduct yourself in an appropriate manner with courtesy and regard for others.
  • Ensure safe provision of all equipment and ensure it is used correctly and to operate within Health & Safety guidelines and undertake risk assessments. 
  • For the duration of the lesson to instruct, provide feedback and encouragement to participants
  • To welcome all participants in a professional and friendly manner.
  • To prepare effectively for sessions.
  • To log and report any incidents/accidents or any other concerns to the facility duty manager.
  • Wear suitable clothing for teaching when in the water and uniform when out of water or when leaving or arriving on site.

Things to consider

Swim Teaching = £13.62 per hour, & Lifeguard will be national minimum wage for their age. *Guaranteed minimum of 6 hours swim teaching per week* The Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage (ANMW): From April 2017 the ANMW was set at £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.
