About the employer

Bill Opticians is an established chain of independent opticians with six branches throughout Devon. We pride ourselves on our use of the latest equipment and examination techniques to ensure a truly professional and accurate service at all times. Opened in May 1972, the Newton Abbot practice was bought by Peter and Lesley Bill from established optometrist, Mr AB Stewart. The practice had been in Newton Abbot since the 1930s. The Bills built up a loyal following of customers for twenty-five years, carrying out over 100,000 eye examinations. In 1999 they were joined by their sons, James (a contact lens practitioner) and Charles (an optometrist). In 1981, the Bill & Taylor practice was opened in Dawlish after Roger Taylor and his partners purchased two part-time practices in the town. Over the course of almost thirty years, Roger built up a loyal local following, providing a personal ophthalmic service with the emphasis on patient care. In April 2010, the management of the practice was taken over by James and Charles Bill. They were joined by John Campbell who bought a wealth of optical experience and is now the resident optometrist at Bill Opticians, Dawlish. Mr Michael Taylor, of Bill & Taylor Opticians, started the Honiton venture by amalgamating the practices of Mr Rifkin and Keith Tempany at 8 and a half High Street over 25 years ago and then moved the practice to its present location in 2006. During November 2014, the management of the Honiton practice was also taken over by James and Charles Bill, the sons of the original Bill & Taylor partners. The Totnes practice began as an independent opticians in 2006 with a reputation for exciting spectacle frames displayed in a unique, bespoke showroom. This became part of Bill Opticians in 2012. In June 2015, the Bill Family opened The Medical Eye Clinic, a new clinic where the Exeter branch of Bill Opticians is just one part of a complete, comprehensive eye centre covering all aspects of eye care. Incorporating a state of the art operating theatre with high quality, professional eye care the practice provides specialist care to those in the South West.
