Advanced Level Apprenticeship
A 3 year Apprenticeship to train as a System Engineer to modular build and final test our product range of Electron Microscopes.
Apprentices will spend time in all departments of the company during the Apprenticeship, learning about all aspects of the business from Product Management, to Research & Development the duties will include the measurement and testing of systems, production of components and final test and service.
There will be exposure to LEAN production techniques and involvement in workshops developing new LEAN concepts for the workplace. This will be coupled with external training leading to at least an ONC but could also lead to an HNC or even degree depending on the individual.
Compared to optical microscopes, SEMs allow much finer detail to be observed and can resolve objects down to the nanometre level. (A nanometre is one billionth of a metre or 100-thousand times less than the diameter of a human hair!)
ZEISS SEMs are used for many applications and are found in university labs, industrial quality control labs and even in air force bases.
As well as imaging, SEMs can be used to analyse materials. For example, Carl Zeiss produces a SEM called JetSCAN that is used to analyse oil samples from military jet engines. The analysis gives information about the health of the jet engine, and allows the air force service technicians to make a decision about when to perform maintenance to ensure that the jet engine remains safe to fly.
