This Apprenticeship Programme is endorsed by the ‘Rolls-Royce & Bentley Specialists Association’ (RRBSA) which is dedicated to the preservation of Rolls-Royce and Bentley motor cars – It is a prestigious apprenticeship programme which has been developed to ensure the specialist skills required to service, maintain and restore pre-war, post-war and modern Rolls-Royce and Bentley motor cars are passed on to the next generation of Engineers and continue to thrive within the Associations member companies.

Royce Service & Engineering was established in 1983 and now has one of the most experienced teams of Rolls-Royce and Bentley specialists in the country. The Engineering Department boasts a well-equipped workshop which has all the specialist tools required to undertake a wide range of work from general servicing to complex full restoration. The company takes pride in turning-out first class workmanship and the engineers are proud of the excellent reputation they have established for restoration work. They have won numerous National Concourse Awards for vehicles that they have prepared.

Apprentices will gain experience of servicing, maintenance, restoration, renovation and Re-manufacturing of Pre-war, Post-War and Modern Rolls Royce and Bentley motor vehicles.


Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

The ideal candidate must have a keen interest and a strong passion for Rolls Royce and Bentley motor cars.

Some previous work experience would be an advantage but is not essential.

Successful applicants will demonstrate:

  • The ability to follow written and verbal instructions

Successful candidates must:

  • Show willingness and desire to learn

Qualifications required

Previous motor vehicle work experience is useful but not essential, GCSE (or equivalent) grades 4 to 9 (A*-C) English and Maths are preferred but not a requirement.

Future prospects

On completion of the Apprenticeship Programme, apprentices will be trained and qualified as a Classic Vehicle Technician. Employment after completion of the third year is subject to performance and a position being available.

Things to consider

There is a high expectation that successful candidates will work hard, be conscientious and represent the company well on all occasions. Appearance, attitude, timekeeping and personal presentation will all be taken into account throughout the interview process. The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year. Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year. The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over. Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Training provider

Level 3 Vehicle Restoration

Full time employment with training at Royce Service & Engineering working towards becoming qualified as a ‘Heritage Engineering Technician’ specialising in ‘Classic Vehicle Restoration’.

Apprentices will gain experience in specialist departments working alongside skilled craftsmen. Apprentices will attend college on block release where they will be taught the engineering principles and theory behind each system and process.

They will gain practical experience of working on components and vehicles and participate in events and enrichment activities throughout the programme.

Successful applicants will attend college on a residential block-release programme delivered over 36 months. College will be from Sunday Evening/Monday Morning to 2.00pm Friday. Travel and accommodation costs will be covered by the company.

In order to ensure that apprentices are competent in completing tasks on their own, Assessors will observe tasks being carried out in the work place at every 6 – 8 weeks. Assessors and Tutors will provide a strong support network to ensure that Apprentices progress and succeed.
