    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

The duties will include: 

  • Washing and dressing residents and assisting with hearing aids, brushing hair, etc.
  • Domestic duties, making beds, washing-up, serving drinks etc.
  • Assisting with activities.
  • Reading and recording information/facts into care plans.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing with other health workers/services/families.
  • Supporting residents with their decision making.
  • Maintain confidentiality and follow the Data Protection Act.
  • The post holder may be required to perform duties other than those given in the job description.
  • The particular duties and responsibilities attached to the post may vary from time to time without changing the general character of the duties or the level of responsibility entailed.

Your induction will cover topics such as: Health and safety, Safeguarding, hand hygiene, infection control, COSHH, manual handling.

Future prospects

The completion of this apprenticeship will provide you with an industry recognised level 2 qualification, which will naturally improve your chances of gaining ongoing employment in your chosen field.

Things to consider

Applicant will need to be physically able to do the demands of the job, as there is a lot of standing, climbing stairs and walking throughout every shift. All appointments are made subject to satisfactory medical, police and reference checks, prior to appointment, and you will be required to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) application form and identity evidence must be provided. Employer is willing to pay 50% towards the cost of obtaining a DBS application.
