    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Everyone Active is looking for one Apprentice to complete a Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship in Coaching - Learn to Swim at Newbold Comyn Leisure Centre.

The 12 month Coaching - Learn to Swim Apprenticeship Framework is designed for those individuals wishing to pursue a career in the leisure industry through a teaching route; it is entirely work based and work related. The swimming programme gives you a wide range of knowledge and experience, and most importantly the qualifications to help you develop a career within the leisure industry. At the end of this apprenticeship you will be a fully qualified swimming teacher, with the ability to teach lessons to groups of swimmers from beginners to experienced, children to adults.

Swimming teachers help people of all ages and abilities to develop swimming skills and techniques, or exercise in water. If you are a good swimmer, and you could motivate and inspire others to develop their skills, this Apprenticeship could suit you well. You would need to be able to encourage people and put them at their ease. You would also need to have perseverance and patience with slower learners.

As a qualified swimming teacher you would:

  • Teach or coach one-to-one or in groups.
  • Plan and deliver sessions appropriate to the level of swimmer.
  • Provide explanations and demonstrate swimming techniques.
  • Correct faults in swimming techniques and identify ways to improve performance.
  • Make sure safety standards are followed.
  • Organise and supervise assistants and helpers.

Things to consider

Due to the nature of the industry apprentices may be required to complete shift work including; early mornings, late evenings and weekends. By submitting an application you will be agreeing to the employer having access to your application form and personal details within this. Please be aware this scheme is government funded and funding eligibility is set by the Skills Funding Agency. The main criteria are: • You must be aged 16 or above. • You must not be in full time education. • You must be an EU citizen and have lived within the EU for the last 3 years. • You must not already have an NVQ level 2 or 3 in Sport & Recreation. • You must not have a degree, HND, HNC, Foundation Degree or be studying towards any of these. • You must be willing to sign up to our Apprentice scheme for 12 months. Pleas note as part of the interview process, you may be required to complete a pool test.

About the employer

Everyone Active will take over management of Newbold Comyn Leisure Centre in June 2017 working in partnership with Warwick District Council. The leisure centre is currently closed as part of a £14.5M refurbishment to the Warwick District Council leisure facilities. The swimming pool, brand new 100 station gym and fitness studios will now reopen in late August 2017, with temporary changing provision for pool users, until the completion of the village changing facilities and sports hall in Spring 2018.

Training provider

Apprentices receive on the job training, working alongside professionals to gain relevant experience within the leisure industry. You will also have the opportunity to achieve nationally recognised qualifications and earn a weekly wage.

You will be assigned a tutor who will visit you whilst at work, and who will guide and support you through your apprenticeship. They will work closely with you and your manager to ensure you have all the necessary aids you require to complete your apprenticeship.

Qualifications gained during this apprenticeship include:

  • ASA Level 2 Diploma in Coaching Learn to Swim.
  • Level 2 Award in Employment Awareness in Active Leisure and Learning.
  • ASA Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching).
  • ASA Level 2 Swimming Teacher.
  • Functional Skills in English and Maths (If required).
