    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage rates are £4.05 an hour for 16 - 17 year olds, £5.60 an hour for 18 - 20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship(usually one day per week).

The George is a family owned and run hotel set right in the heart of the historic city of Lichfield. We offer plenty of dining options including; light snacks, bar meals, traditional afternoon tea, hearty comfort food, carvery and modern British dining. We currently require an Apprentice Commis Chef to join our workforce.

You will learn and develop your skills in different cooking techniques such as:

  • Boiling, poaching and steaming.
  • Stewing and braising.
  • Baking, roasting, and grilling.
  • Deep frying and shallow frying.
  • Cold food preparation.

Other duties will include:

  • Preparing and cooking dishes from our various menus.
  • Produce good quality food.
  • Maintaining the cleanliness of your work station and kitchen.
  • Follow company and national health and safety procedures.

Your development will be key and so you will be learning as you go as well as spending time out of the kitchen for training opportunities.

Along with learning the skills you need, you will also learn how to deliver outstanding levels of food quality and how to maintain high standards of food safety.

As an Apprentice you will be included on a Hospitality Qualification. Your Qualification will be delivered by an Award Winning Training Provider who will support your learning and development throughout your Apprenticeship. This will involve a Vocational Learning Advisor coming to visit you on a regular basis to deliver the training and guide you through your Apprenticeship.

Although this Apprenticeship is being advertised at NMW for 16-17 year olds, the successful candidate will be paid NMW for their age.

Previous kitchen experience is desirable but not essential as full training will be given.

  • You will have an approachable manner and a practical attitude.
  • You'll also have an attention to detail and a passion for working with fresh produce.

Things to consider

The George is right in the city centre of Lichfield which is easily accessible via public transport links. The Successful candidate will be paid NMW for their age.
