    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

    You will work on a rota basis that operates over seven days. You will work five out of seven days. Shifts TBC.

The Rectory is looking for a brand new commis chef to join their expanding team!  You will work closely with the other experienced chefs, broadening your knowledge of home cooked dishes.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Helping to prepare all kitchen dishes.
  • Assisting in cooking all homemade foods.
  • Helping with deliveries.
  • Upholding of food compliance.
  • General cleaning duties.

You will also get the chance to learn:

  • How to smoke foods.
  • Pickling foods.

The owner of The Rectory is very committed within his staff members and enjoys taking them on foraging walks to find the best local ingredients for the restaurant.

  • No specific qualifications are required as you will be taught everything during your apprenticeship, however you must have a passion for cooking and want to progress your career within this industry.

The Rectory is extremely invested in all its staff members, for the right candidate there would be a full time position available after the apprenticeship. This can lead to brilliant progression routes such as a head chef position!

Things to consider

You will be required to work evenings and weekends. Be prepared to be physically active for long periods of time during shift. This is going to be a very hot and busy working environment. You must be flexible and open to change.

  • Food Production Level 2 NVQ includes Technical Certificate and Functional Skills aswell as Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS) and Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) workbooks.
