Caterpillar is a global manufacturing company which has been established in the UK for more than 60 years, currently employing over 120,000 employees worldwide, including 10,000 in the UK. The facility in Desford, Leicestershire produces small construction equipment for worldwide markets.
Should you be successfully selected you will be offered a Production Operations Apprenticeship contract for a period of 12 months.

This experience will start with a period of 9 weeks on site at the Desford facility within the Skills Academy. This time will be spent learning the Caterpillar ethos and values as well as the grounding necessary to take up a position within the operations environment on the shop floor. The learning within the Skills Academy will include the theory required in order to gain the BTEC level 2 Extended Certificate in Engineering, the NVQ Level 2 Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering, all the health and safety learning you will need to be able to work on the shop floor as well as understanding what the Caterpillar Production System is and how to apply the theory learnt to a practical working environment.

Following this you will join the experienced assembly team where you will gain a vast amount of experience and skills within the production environment, as you will be performing a specific job role. You will receive specific on the job training. After which you will be expected to perform that job role independently within the team environment.

It is the expectation of the programme that all apprentices will have had experience within a variety of tasks in the assembly environment during the 12 months of employment at Caterpillar.
There is also continuous support from the team at Caterpillar as well as from BMET staff.

Throughout your 12 months at Caterpillar you will be continually assessed, from your overall score in the Skills Academy and throughout all the job roles you will be given the opportunity to perform which gives the Company an overall view of your performance.

At the end of the 12 months there may be the opportunity to progress onto a further apprenticeship year two contract for a period of 18 months. This is not guaranteed however you will have been given a golden opportunity to demonstrate to potential employers that you have transferable skills as well as validate that you have had experience within an engineering manufacturing environment.

Caterpillar promotes a diverse workforce and actively encourages applications from females due to their under representation in the industry.
