Working towards a relevant qualification, your main duties will consist of maintaining Economic Developments various social media channels, including facebook, twitter, LinkedIn and creating e-bulletins/mailings.

You will liaise with a wide range of personnel including Economic Development and Regeneration staff, other internal departments, businesses, and external partners. You will be required to support event using our social media channels that we utilise both within the Invest in Wigan team and the Town Centre Unit.  Liaison will be undertaken with our PR team to ensure that all corporate policies and procedures are followed in relation to social media and WiganWorks is maximised as a social media tool.  Some of your tasks will include taking minutes, organising meetings, creating and maintaining databases and preparing and attending events.

You will also be required to spend a proportion of your time undertaking a relevant qualification and will gain a range of experience whilst learning from professionals within the organisation.

During your apprenticeship you will:

  • Provide a range of clerical duties including photocopying, sending faxes, filing, emails and taking calls.
  • Maintain customer contact systems and deal with customers effectively and courteously.
  • Organise appointments and events.
  • Assist with maintaining contact lists.
  • Research and analyse social media information.
  • Liaising with internal Media/PR team to collate images.
  • Writing social media content for all social media channels.
  • Monitoring success, producing briefings for regular updates and meetings
  • Provide feedback to management.
  • Monitoring feeds for potential retweets
  • Supporting both internal and selected external services and events
  • Building followers and memberships of the various social media channels.
  • To assist in the collation of information for the monthly business bulletins
  • To assist in the compilation of the monthly newsletter
  • Produce monthly reports on open and click rates
  • Support the organisation of meetings, including booking rooms and refreshments, inviting attendees, photocopying and taking minutes.
  • Communicate with council officers and outside agencies by phone, internet, email and other media.
  • Assist with the preparation of documentation including flyers, booklets, letters and other documents using Word, Publisher, Excel and PowerPoint as appropriate.
  • Manage and update databases and produce reports.
  • Keep abreast of social media practices, which would improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the role and attend relevant training as necessary.
  • Work flexibly to meet the changing needs and demands of the role.
  • Attend and participate in any meetings and training events which develop and/or improve team/individual performance, including attendance and satisfactory progress on the Apprenticeship
