    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

  • The apprenticeship will be split between the workshop and out on site.
  • We cover a wide range of projects from bespoke furniture, kitchens, complete house builds and heritage work. 
  • Your duties will include safe use of joinery hand tools, portable power tools and a limited range of workshop machinery.
  • The range covered varies from manufacturing components, installing first fix, installing second fix and structural components.

  • You should have a good work ethic and a strong interest in becoming a skilled carpenter and joiner.  

Personal qualities

  • You should be keen to learn, a good team player and a good communicator. 
  • You will be working in domestic properties, you should be curious and respectful of personal property. 

Qualifications required

  • You should have a good standard of Maths & English, ideally GCSE or equivalent  grade C/4 or above.
  • You may be able to study towards equivalency qualification alongside your apprenticeship - please discuss this with the college. 

Future prospects

There is every possibility of a permanent position provided you compete your apprenticeship and your performance is satisfactory throughout.

Things to consider

Please consider how you will get to work, having your own transport would be advantageous. Whilst on site you might well be working in the elements. You will also be working in customers home, you will need to be respectful and courteous.
