    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

  • Working week

    Minimum of 30 hours p/w on a rota basis, working 5 days / 7. Earliest start will be 11am and the latest finish will be 9pm. Shifts TBC. Starting on the Apprentice NMW of £3.50 per hour with periodical increases based on progress and performance.

The Swingletree Inn, near Callington are seeking an enthusiastic candidate to join them as an Apprentice Chef.

Joining this small, friendly team you will work alongside the Head Chef in preparing high quality home cooked meals and specials in their newly refurbished professional kitchen.

Daily tasks will include:

  • Working under the Head Chef in creating dishes and meals.
  • Inspecting and ensuring the quality of ingredients.
  • Preparing ingredients for meals.
  • Measuring ingredients and portion sizes.
  • Giving input to menus and specials.
  • Working to improve the quality of dishes.
  • Helping with deliveries and storage of stock.
  • Ensuring good hygiene and health and safety at all times.

Training provider

This apprenticeship will be delivered through a combination of work based assessments and one day a week attendance at college. The programme will culminate in an End Point Assessment where the practical skills and knowledge gained will be formally tested.
