    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

You will be given first-hand experience working in an electrical environment and learn the skills needed for the job. Working mainly with Domestic, Industrial and Commercial installations, services you will also help provide include the following;

Duties will include

  • Inspecting & testing electrotechnical systems and equipment
  • Diagnosing & Correcting electrical faults in electrical and security systems
  • Maintaining electrical systems & equipment
  • Plan and prepare to maintain eletro technical systems and equipment
  • Applying health & safety legislation to working practices
  • Organising the working environment for each job
  • Commercial, Domestic and Industrial Installations
  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures
  • Fault Finding and repairs
  • Sockets, lights and power cables
  • Testing and inspections
  • Heating Systems

  • GCSE A-C Maths and English or equivalent qualifications
  • Candidates who achieve level 1 in city training's initial assessment also considered.

Future prospects

On completion of the Advanced Apprenticeship, individuals will have the opportunity to apply to progress on to the Higher National Certificate (HNC), Higher National Diploma (HND) or a relevant Higher Education (HE)

Training provider

  • Competency qualification: Apprentices will be required to produce work and build an e-portfolio of evidence through blended learning which will include practical and written knowledge assessments which are carried out in the workplace.  
  • Knowledge qualification is delivered in the classroom on a day release basis over a period of 16 weeks.  The course is completed with written / computerised assessments that are delivered in exam conditions in the classroom.
  • Functional Skills at level 1 in Maths, English and IT delivered in the classroom
  • Employment Rights & Responsibilities are embedded in the competency qualification.
  • Personal Learning & Thinking Skills are delivered via a workbook and completed in the workplace.
