You would be trained up to the highest standards of bricklaying and become a valued member of a team of professional bricklayers. You will start off Labouring getting to know all materials used and taught basic bricklaying skills such as running in on a line.

    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

As you progress through your apprenticeship we will teach you more of the technical skills needed to become a bricklayer such as setting out houses boundary walls to building quins, arches and different bonds of brickwork.

Duties to include, but not be limited to;

  • Loading out of materials
  • Putting on mortar mixes
  • Building with various materials brick/ concrete block
  • Helping to clean up at the end of the day
  • Building to the highest standard possible

About the employer

Xcel Bricklayers Ltd build new build houses for companies such as Taylor Wimpey, Barratt Homes and the alike. We use various materials ranging from brick and block to natural stone.

Training provider

All training to be provided by City College Plymouth in collaboration with the company themselves throughout the duration of the apprenticeship. Your apprenticeship may consist of the following components;
