    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

On a day to day basis, you will be using our IT Programmes Excel and Word to write manuals for our customers and internal use.

You will be working with our team of 2 staff covering all areas of the business.

You will be fully supported and trained t carry out the following tasks:

  • Receiving customers enquiries by telephone, email and in person.
  • Using bespoke EPOS (electronic point of sale) software systems including excel and the manufacturers applications for each system.
  • Maintaining stationery items
  • Delivering supplies (eg till rolls) to local businesses within walking distance
  • Using excel spreadsheets to deal with customer orders
  • Translate excel spreadsheets into product files
  • Amending existing templates for each customers programme. This can include their prices, layout ensuring it is specific to their business needs.
  • Customer service - greeting customers, identifying their needs and asking questions around what system they have
  • Making coffees for the team

The right candidate for us doesn't have to have an in-depth knowledge or experience of IT to apply or be considered.

Just an interest and willingness to learn the IT functions.

Personal qualities

Someone who is interested in developing their IT Skills. It isn't necessary to have the skills at this point as it will be fully taught to you by both the business and as part of the IT Apprenticeship college training.

Qualifications required

GCSEs in maths & english grades A* to C/grades 9 to 4 or equivalent Functional Skills at Level 2.

Future prospects

For the right candidate, upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, we would like to offer ongoing employment. We recruited our first apprentice 5 years ago and she is still with us know and is an integral part of the team. She will deliver the majority of the in-house training and support you in your role.

  • Excel - Visual Basic for applications
  • Various EPOS software systems used including Quarion and Vectron
  • Product knowledge on tills and EPOS systems given City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in I Professional Functional Skills in English, Maths & ICT if no exempt

Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage (ANMW): The National Minimum Wage for Apprentices is £3.50 per hour from 1st April 2017. This is the legal minimum pay per hour applying to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship. For apprentices 19 or over who have completed their first year and are continuing their apprenticeship, the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training. Please note that anyone under the age of 18 will only work a maximum of 40 hours per week. Any role which exceeds these hours on advert will be amended accordingly to fall in line with the legislation.
