    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

We are currently hiring candidates to work in a nursery setting.

The moment your journey begins as an apprentice:             

  • You become an employed member of staff
  • You will be paid an hourly rate

You will work towards gaining a full qualification – without having to attend classroom based lessons. The apprenticeship will last a minimum of 12 months. You will be working towards a Level 2 or Level 3 in Childcare.  

Throughout your role you are not alone. Parenta offer you full training, support, guidance and are here to help you progress your career. You even have a personal assessor/tutor assigned to you from the moment you start your journey as a modern apprentice.

Your role will include:                                                                                   

  • Working with children between the ages of 0-5 years, organising activities, being pro-active with the help and care carried out within the early years teaching sector.
  • Assisting and meeting the personal/emotional needs of individual children – Changing nappies, feeding, caring and establishing a relationship with children.
  • Work (under supervision) providing all aspects of care/support to children, ensuring they take part with day- to- day learning and play activities.
  • Ensure that the setting is safe, clean and well presented.
  • Collaborate with colleagues ensuring the highest standards of work are carried out and are provided throughout your role in a positive manner.
  • To contribute to a high quality caring environment for children. This includes creating a warm, friendly and stimulating atmosphere in which the children can develop emotionally, socially and educationally through individual attention and group activities.
  • Attend team meetings and contribute relevant ideas.
  • Be able to understand and implement the setting’s confidentiality policy.
  • Contribute towards an effective and supportive team environment.

Throughout this role, you will gain extensive knowledge and experience within the working environment which will set you up for a great career upon completion. This will hopefully lead to permanent employment within the early learning year’s sector or even continue to the next level, undertaking further training.

The rate for apprentices (or if aged 19, for their first year only) is £3.50 from the 1st April 2017. This is the legal minimum pay per hour. Most receive more; a median basic hourly pay rate of £6.31 for Level 2 and 3, and £9.68 for Level 4 and 5 Higher Apprentices

No GCSE Minimum requirement.

Future prospects

When you have successfully completed your Apprenticeship, you may have the opportunity to continue with an exciting career in childcare! Initially you will be working towards an NVQ Level 2 in Childcare, with a chance to progress to a level 3 after that.

About the employer

The single level purpose built nursery has been carefully designed with 4 rooms for the different ages. Orchard Room is for the youngest children aged between 3 months to 2 years. It is a separate building adjoining the main nursery garden, it has its own parking and entrance. In the main building is Meadow Room for children aged 2 years, Garden Room for the 3 year olds, Woodland Room for Preschool and children up to the age of 8 during the school holidays. We will assess for readiness as each child moves through the different stages of development and growth following the EYFS Framework. For children to have the best start in life they must have the right tools with which to learn. Each room has stimulating toys and equipment, each day is different and filled with learning, play and lots of fun. When you child joins us they will be introduced to their key-worker in each room. Each day you will be informed about your childs day in the nursery. We will work in partnership with parents and carers to ensure the daily routine for babies and children in our care accommodates the needs of the individual child and family, including meal times, snack times, rest, sleep, toileting and play.
