    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

We are looking for passionate creative people who want to make it in the hairdressing industry. Whether your ambition is to work in a salon as a stylist, go into teaching hairdressing or even work on creative events such as London Fashion week; Contemporary Hair Academy will ensure that you receive fantastic training to enable you to achieve your goals!

Level 2 Apprenticeships with Contemporary Hair Academy usually takes 24 months but this depends on how quickly you want to progress. There will then be the opportunity to progress onto level 3 which usually takes a further year.

Throughout your apprenticeship you will be paid a minimum of £3.50 per hour and work 30-40 hours per week meaning you will earn between £105-£140 per week. Included in this will be 2 dedicated days for off the job training at our academy in Middlesbrough as well as weekly in salon training with your in salon Educator.

 You will join the team of enthusiastic professional stylists catering to both men and women. 

The duties and responsibilities involved in this role will include:

  • Meeting and greeting clients in a friendly and helpful manner
  • Making appointments for clients and assisting with reception duties
  • Keeping the salon clean and tidy
  • Stock management and placing orders
  • You will learn how to mix colours and apply various colouring techniques, as well as cleanse and style the hair
  • As your training progresses you will learn a variety of cutting and styling techniques.

Things to consider

This position will involve the applicants spending long periods of time standing. Applicants may also be required to work beyond 5pm during busy periods. From 1st of April 2017 the National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 or over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. Those between the ages of 19-24 who are in their second year (or third year) need to be paid the National Minimum Wage for their age bracket. In April 2016 the new National Living Wage was implemented and therefore if you are over the age of 25 and in your second or third year of an Apprenticeship you will be entitled to be paid the National Living Wage. The salon provides hairdressing services to the local community such as cutting, colouring, and styling hair to both male and female clients. We pride ourselves on delivering a fantastic hairdressing service with an exceptional customer experience.   • Level 2 in Hairdressing
