Duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Preparation and processing of financial journals
  • Processing and raising of sales invoices
  • Processing of purchase invoices
  • Bank reconciliations
  • Filing of financial information in manual and computer based systems Assisting with the month end process
  • Assisting with the preparation of supporting schedules at year end
  • General support to the Office Manager, Bar Manager and Shop Manager Other tasks as required by the Chief Operating Officer and Sabbatical Officers

As the postholder progresses with their apprenticeship it is anticipated that the following tasks will also fall under the remit of this role (likely within year 2 of the role):

  • Delivery of basic financial training to student club and society officers provision of basic financial guidance and support to student club and society officers
  • Input into monthly reporting and forecasting processes
  • Analysis of commercial financial performance to inform the Bar and Shop Managers’ decision making

Qualifications required

3 A Levels grades A*-C and 5 GCSES grades A*-C including Maths and English or equivalent level qualifications

Future prospects

At the end of the 2 year apprenticeship it is anticipated that the successful candidate will move onto a more senior post in finance elsewhere, however an option to extend the post beyond 2 years is available (subject to agreement by the Chief Operating Officer 3 months prior to the end of the 2 year term).

St George’s Students’ Union (SGSU) is the recognised body which represents all the students who study at St George’s, University of London, the UK’s only independent medical and healthcare higher education institution. When students join the University they become automatic members of the Union, and SGSU has academic, social and welfare responsibilities for its members, with the purpose of ensuring that all students are supported and represented during their time at St George’s so that they have the best experience possible whilst studying at the University. Training provider

As a junior finance assistant apprentice with BPP, you will complete the new apprenticeship standard, Professional Accountancy Taxation Apprenticeship at Level 4. Within the apprenticeship you will undertake the CFAB certificate level professional qualification which will be completed at a BPP centre or via the Online Classroom Live platform, in addition to at the workplace.
