A varied role offering the opportunity to develop technical and craft knowledge and experience on large plant projects working for an innovative Engineering company. The successful candidates will be offered the opportunity to gain competencies in project management and design, fabrication and welding, fitting and turning. Through rotation within the company they will be able to fully understand each area necessary in making a project a success.

GEL Engineering works around the UK and internationally, with the majority of its operations based around the London area. As such the successful candidates will be provided with high-end accommodation in the City and a generous meal and travel allowance.

This role offers a lot of variety and the opportunity to work in all condidtions. Due to the essential team work and trust required working on large projects and sites, GEL Engineering are real advocates of team building. This includes regularly organising events and trips; including abroad.

Qualifications required

Although GCSE Grades A*-B (or equivalent) in Maths, English Language and Science are desirable, and knowledge or use of ICT preferred, Stroud Metal will also consider applicants who are willing to develop these through additional training to include Functional Skills as part of the apprenticeship programme.

Future prospects

The successful candidates will be fully supported through their apprenticeship and on to the HNC if desired. The company will also support Engineers to attain chartered status. Qualified and experienced engineers at GEL Engineering have the potential to earn £75,000 - £100,000 per annum.

Things to consider

Applicants should understand that they will be required to work outside in all conditions and will need to be adaptable to situations. When working in London, Engineers are also expected to stay in the accommodation provided by GEL Engineering. They will also be required to travel each week during term times to college.

Additional location information

As tuition will take place at South Gloucestershire & Stroud's Berkeley Campus a public building for this location has been used as candidates will need their own accommodation in this area.

Training provider

As the successful apprentice you will undertake an Advanced Apprenticeship in Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering to include an NVQ, Knowledge Certificate, Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT (where applicable), Employment Rights & Responsibilities (ERR) and Personal Learning & Thinking Skills (PLTS).

The Apprenticeship will be delivered by a South Gloucestershire & Stroud College Assessor over 4 academic years. You will be required to attend Berkeley Campus to complete any underpinning knowledge support through day release over one-two academic years.  You will see the majority of your assessments towards your qualifications undertaken within the workplace environment.

You will be assigned a supervisor/mentor within the workplace, who will support you to develop your workplace skills, knowledge and experience throughout the duration of your apprenticeship programme.
