We are looking for an apprentice who will work within our administration teams, carrying out routine administration tasks and reception duties.

This will mainly be in the school reception and sixth form areas.

You will need excellent communication skills as you will regularly answer the school’s phone and liaise with members of the public and parents regarding school related issues.

You will need good IT skills and have good attention to detail to ensure that your work is accurate.

An enhanced DBS clearance will be required.

Opportunity to gain experience over all sectors of the business and develop good business practices. 

A normal day would include:

  • Creating documents using Microsoft Office
  • Filing
  • Sending documents by email and post
  • Answering the telephone professionally and politely, the postholder will regularly answer the school phone
  • Liaising with members of the public, students, staff and parents regarding school-related enquiries
  • Contributing to the overall ethos and work of the school
  • Attending and participating in relevant meetings
  • Taking notes at meetings is required
  • Use of the schools management information system (SIMS) to input and retrieve data
  • Compliance with all necessary policies and procedures relating to child protection, equality and diversity, health and safety, confidentiality, and data protection

You will attend college for one day a week to complete a Level 2 Diploma in Business and Administration.

This vacancy is for one year only.

Things to consider

This vacancy is in a school environment, sometimes working in office areas and sometimes in areas where students will be present, for example the Sixth Form Learning Resource Centre. You must be able to respect the confidentiality of the data you have access to. The vacancy is for one year only and during the school term only which is for 39 weeks of the year (to include INSET days). Holidays must be taken when the school is not in session and a holiday allowance of 5.55 weeks is factored in to the pay calculation. The remaining weeks are unpaid and you are not expected to be at work. The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year. Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year. The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over. Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

About the employer

Farmor’s School is an 11-18 school in Fairford, a small town in the Cotswolds which is in easy commuting distance from Cirencester, Stroud, Swindon and Cheltenham. Most staff who work at the school live in the Cirencester area, Swindon and Cheltenham. Students who attend the school come mainly from eight feeder primary schools in Gloucestershire. We are also the school of choice for many parents in Cricklade and North Swindon.
