The primary role of a network engineer is to: 

  • Design and install Networks
  • Maintain and support communication networks within an organisation or between organisations
  • Increase the organisations productivity
  • They will gain an understanding of network configuration, cloud, network administration and monitoring tools
  • Give technical advice and guidance

Desired skills

Network engineers need to maintain high levels of operation of communication networks in order to provide maximum performance and availability for their users, such as staff, clients, customers and suppliers.

Personal qualities

Have lived in the EU for 3 years or more and have the right to work in the UK.

Qualifications required

  • A minimum of 3 A levels (or equivalent) at grade C or above, one of these must be in IT.
  • NOT have a qualification already at level 4 or higher in the same subject.
  • NOT already have studied a similar level apprenticeship.

Training provider

Level 4 apprenticeship: 18-24 months

Approximately 11% of training takes place in the QA learning centre classroom. 9% is done in the workplace, through online training, face-to-face meetings with your QA Technical Skills Coach, or developing your portfolio. The remaining time will be spent on your workplace activity.
