    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

The apprentice will be involved with day to day running of the salon and will undertake tasks such as:

• Answering phone and booking appointments

• Washing hair

• Taking money

• Greeting clients as they arrive and making them feel welcome, making drinks and assisting with hair washing and overseeing stylists as they carry out more complex tasks.

• Making drinks for clients

• General upkeep of salon including sweeping up (The salon will need to be kept tidy and safe for clients and staff).

You will be standing for most of the day and in contact with chemicals. No free parking available, but very close to a public car park

Training provider

Training is mainly assessed in the workplace working towards the NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing.

You will be expected to attend Farnborough College one day a week.

In the workplace you will be provided with a Mentor and models to practice your skills.

Functional Skills if required.
