    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

A normal day would include

  • Preparing purchase and sales day book
  • Preparing cash book
  • Reconciliation of debtors and creditors
  • Preparing vat returns
  • Preparing and posting journals
  • Managing client records
  • Liaising with client on regular basis
  • Managing clients enquiries
  • Meeting and greeting clients
  • Other accounting, bookkeeping, and payroll tasks.

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Good IT skills
  • Knowledge of a range of different computer package like excel PowerPoint and accounting software etc
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to meet and greet clients
  • Must be confident.

Personal qualities

  • An understanding of the need to deal with customers sensitively and to keep information confidential
  • Ability to take on individual project work and demonstrate initiative.

Qualifications required

  • Must have B Grade or equivalent in Maths and English.

Possible progression within the company and progression onto the next level apprenticeship.
