    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Duties will include:

  • Lawn Care : Mowing, Strimming, Edging, Feeding, Scarifying.
  • Border maintenance: Weeding, Mulching, Pruning, Planting.
  • General Tidying/Cleaning: Paths, Drives, Litter Picking, Machines, Tools.
  • Watering: Trees, Hedges, Plants etc
  • Tree Care : Pruning, Clearing fallen branches
  • Hedge Cutting, Possible Topiary

Desired skills

  • Confident and comfortable with using a wide range of garden machinery and tools.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Must be able to work in all weathers/within reason.
  • Ability to work unsupervised at times after instruction.
  • Able to identify problems.
  • Be able to take direction.

Personal qualities

  • Good communication and sense of humour.

Qualifications required

  • GCSE Grade C or above or equivalent would be an advantage, however not essential as functional skills are offered as part of the framework.

Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage (ANMW): From April 1st 2017 The National Minimum Wage for Apprentices is £3.50 per hour. This is the legal minimum pay per hour applying to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship. For apprentices 19 or over who have completed their first year and are continuing their apprenticeship, the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies.
