    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

You would be learning all aspects of the business from riding, lunging, feeding, competition grooming, although a non riding position there will be riding opportunities for the right person. The right person will be reliable, diligent, work from your initiative and able to work as part of a small team so have a good sense of humour! You will be required to work every other weekend.

You will be training towards a work-based Level 2 Diploma in Horse Care (for a groom) This qualification offers a higher commercial and professional standard than College based Diplomas, due to the learning happening within the work place.

The qualifications are run by Reaseheath Equine College where you will spend one day each week. This position is full time and the national apprenticeship minimum wage, this is NOT a live in position please make sure you can get to our yard.

  • Mucking out
  •  Grooming
  •  Bandaging
  •  Turning out and bringing in
  •  Show preparation
  •  Lunging
  •  Hacking
  •  Clearing up animal mess
  •  Tack cleaning

  • Able to muck out an advantage but all training will be given.

Qualifications required

  • GCSE (Grade C or above) or equivalent would be an advantage, however not essential as functional skills are offered as part of the framework.

Future prospects

Level 3 onwards, an opportunity to attend national level shows and regular training on your own horse if wanted.

Things to consider

No accommodation is available for the vacancy. The will be one free riding lesson offered per week as part of this program.
