The purpose of the role is to learn all aspects of running a business and build customer relationships to support the development of the business. The key tasks will include:

  • To be the main point of contact with customers and anyone who contacts the company
  • Deliver excellent customer service to our customers and develop professional working relationships to maintain customers
  • To learn how to keep the books and ensure invoices to clients are paid in order to secure the company’s income
  • To maintain office systems and organise any new systems
  • To receive and handle enquiries that come from the website

  • To learn how to prepare costings on spreadsheets
  • To learn how to develop the website to grow sales of new products

It is essential to have a Maths, English and ICT GCSE, at grade C or above, or equivalent qualifications.

There may be a role at the end of the apprenticeship that you could apply for.

Things to consider

The initial wage is £4 per hour but this may increase. Please think about how you would travel to the workplace. The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year. Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year. The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over. Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

About the employer

Jakks Country Furniture makes bespoke joinery items such as gates; and decorative plaques; and supplies outdoor garden furniture. The company is based in an industrial unit on a farm and the office is on the first floor above the main workshop building. As the company manufacture wood products there is an amount of sawdust that finds its way into every nook and cranny.
