Working with a team of qualified tree surgeons in the field of arboriculture. The role will involve assisting with tree work such as pruning, pollarding, crown reductions, crown thinning and sectional/clear felling and assisting with ground site safety. The work is carried out across the Berkshire area on public/private sites.

Intermediate Level Apprenticeship
Maydencroft Limited are a modern innovative company who are looking to create a unique environment for apprentices to start a career in the land based industry. We have a passion for the environment and a core focus on training and personal development.
Arriving at base punctually to join the team, gathering equipment from the workshop at the start of the day before travelling to the day’s site.
Once at the job site, help to set up with equipment and safety measures under the direction of the Tree Team Leader, using a wood chipper (supervised) throughout the day and helping to tidy the site when finished.
Health and Safety training, use of machinery (appropriate to competence and stage of apprenticeship) such as Unimogs, chainsaws and wood chippers. Methods and techniques in tree surgery. Tree identification.
Duty to act in a professional manner with customers and colleagues at all times.
You will be working as part of our experienced Trees team for four days of the week. Each day you will work alongside your dedicated mentor. You will attend Berkshire College of Agriculture one day a week where you will be taught in-depth by industry professionals. With access to the Maydencroft modern office facilities, including a hot desk computer and company library, you will have the technical support you need from professionals already working in the industry. As well as your dedicated mentor, you will have on the job support via a BCA assessor carrying 6 weekly visits.
We work on a wide range of commercial sites and nature reserves which involves working outside.
The pay rate is £5 per hour and the employer will carry out a review at three months with the possibility of a pay rise depending on performance, attendance, work level, and college course work completion/feedback.
Requirements and prospects
Arboriculture and tree surgery is a rewarding career however you need to be able to work in the outdoor environment throughout the year and be able to undertake physical tasks.
Polite and presentable. A desire to learn and to be open to new ways of doing things. To be able to work to high standard to achieve a goal individually or as a team. To be positive and eager to learn.
There are no qualifications required in this role although a working, everyday English and Maths standard is necessary with regards to following Health and Safety requirements.
