    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Are you interested in learning how cars work? If your passion is for cars and motor vehicle technology then this apprenticeship is for you. If successful, you will be employed by one of the many Toyota Retail Centres located all around the UK.

  • Once trained as a Toyota Technician you will be expected to carry out a wide variety of tasks from routine maintenance to full overhaul.
  • You will work with some of the very latest hi-tech diagnostic equipment and motor vehicle technology in the industry including our cutting edge Hybrid technology.
  • Your apprenticeship - Candidates will undertake an apprenticeship in Light Vehicle and Maintenance and Repair the overall programme will last three years.
  • During this time you will attend block release training at our state of the art training centre in Derby for 23 weeks. For the remaining weeks you will be working full time in one of Toyota's network of Retail Centres. 


  • Routine maintenance.
  • Sorting out brake pads, discs, tyres, suspensions.
  • Starting and changing electrics (diagnostics).
  • Fuel ignition - checking/changing.
  • Oil filter - checking/changing.

Qualifications required

  • Ideally you will have GCSEs (or equivalent qualifications) A*-C in Maths, English and Science although this is not mandatory.

Future prospects

Once you have completed your apprenticeship you will be eligible to attend further technical training courses through Toyota's adult training programme. Successful completion of these, along with Toyota's Technician assessments, will provide you with the opportunity to rise to the very top of your game. There are many opportunities to rise through the ranks within a Toyota Retail Centre, it's all down to you and the effort you are willing to put in.
