This role is for an enthusiastic individual who will assist the team to ensure we deliver the best customer service and communicate with our customers through clear, contemporary, attractive and engaging use of all media and to market our services and provide information about the opportunities we offer to the communities, stakeholders and people of Devon.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To assist on the delivery and further development of the Marketing and Communications Strategy.
  • To assist with the maintenance of marketing through website, including the Training Hub, news and project updates.
  • Build on our use of social media; Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and other popular social media sites.
  • To assist with the design of marketing and promotional materials such as leaflets, posters, flyers in line with our branding guidelines.
  • Assist in the writing and distributing of all our publications.
  • Attend and compile minutes for the Enterprise, Marketing and Communications Committee.
  • Support with preparation and attendance of external promotional events.
  • To assist with the maintenance of the Google awards account.
  • To assist with the administration of the marketing department.

Other duties:

  • To answer/deal with queries, both face to face and via the telephone, take messages and pass them on to the relevant member of staff in an appropriate and timely manner.
  • To meet and greet visitors as required.
  • To be a flexible and supportive member of the team.
  • Attend and take part in team meetings.
  • Take and produce minutes of meetings as required.
  • Data input, data extraction, photocopying, faxing, filing and typing duties.
  • To deal with internal and external post and emails on a day to day basis.
  • To prepare for and attend assessment meetings and participate in relevant training events as required by the organization.
  • Throughout the training period the post holder will be expected to complete all educational and training requirements.
  • To sign a learning contract with the training provider and adhere to the agreement.
  • Carry out any other duties as reasonably requested by the Head of Business Opportunities, Senior Management Team or other colleagues.

Experience:

  • A track record of high levels of attendance and punctuality.

Practical Skills:

  • Competent to process basic clerical tasks accurately following instructions.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to deliver tasks and work to deadlines.
  • Confidence and ability to establish effective working relationships.

Personal qualities

Personal Attributes:

  • Demonstrates a consistent friendly, open and welcoming approach.
  • Ability to work independently and within collaborative teams.
  • Have a flexible, adaptable and willing to learn attitude.
  • Good knowledge of change management.

Qualifications required

  • Minimum of 4 GSCEs or equivalent (this must include A* - C (9-4) in Maths and English Language or equivalent).
  • Competent user of computer software packages in particular Microsoft Office packages.
  • Must meet minimum requirements of training provider for access to NVQ and apprenticeship programme.

Future prospects

We are a very small organisation and the potential for a permanent position is extremely small. The main purpose for us is to give a candidate the opportunity to train and gain experience in the workplace.

Training provider

  • Level 2 Business Administration apprenticeship with one day a week college training and on the job assessments and observations.
  • NVQ in Business Administration.
  • Level 2 Certificate in Principles of Business and Administration.
  • Employee Rights and Responsibilities - embedded within Level 2 Certificate in Principles of Business & Administration.
  • Functional Skills in Maths/English/IT if applicable.

Other information

The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year. Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year. The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over. Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).
