We are looking for an Apprentice to become a key part of our Central Office Function of a Multi-academy Trust of four schools in Hertfordshire. You will report directly to the Trust Business Manager and will assist them to run all finance and Human Resources aspects of the central office function.

To provide financial and administrative support for the central trust function including:

  • Recording all financial transactions using SAGE finance software.
  • Allocate VAT as appropriate.
  • Placing orders, processing invoices, checking to purchase orders and goods received notes, ensuring appropriate authorisation is in place.
  • Managing payments as necessary.
  • Process journal entries as necessary.
  • Complete bank reconciliations and resolve related issues, if required.
  • Undertake month end procedures as required.
  • To provide relief support and assistance for the Trust’s schools’ administrative and finance functions on an ad hoc or emergency basis as required.
  • Provide administrative support to the Trust’s Executive Head.
  • Provide support for the Trusts HR function.

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Excellent numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Evidence of computer proficiency, including Word and Excel.
  • Experience of working in an HR or finance role desirable.

Personal qualities

  • Ability to complete work to a high standard of accuracy and presentation.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a team but also to work independently.
  • Ability to work with initiative and to tight deadlines.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • A willingness to learn.

Qualifications required

  • Minimum GCSE, or equivalent, grade C in English and Maths.
  • A levels or equivalent are desirable.

Future prospects

After the training the Apprentice could apply for a role within the Trust or one of the Trust’s schools but that would depend on their being vacancies. The skills learnt and experience gained will also be transferrable to other finance and office administrator jobs.

All appointments will be subject to DRB checks. There may be long periods working on a computer.

  • All learning will be done in the workplace; you may need to attend the occasional workshop in College.
  • If you need to complete Functional Skills, you will be required to attend College once a week for at least the first 3 months.
