    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

  • Working week

    Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 9am – 5pm (1 hour break). Thursday, Friday 9am to 6pm (1 hours break). Saturday 9am – 4pm (1 hours break). Your routine days off would be Sunday and Wednesday.

  • Style and finish hair
  • Set and dress hair
  • Cut hair using basic techniques
  • Colour and lighten hair
  • Advise and consult with clients
  • Shampoo, condition and treat the hair & scalp
  • Develop and maintain effectiveness at work
  • Meet and greet clients
  • Answer the phone
  • Light cleaning and tidying of the salon
  • Supporting stylists
  • Hosting and looking after our clients
  • Maintaining and replenishing stock and equipment such as towels

  • As an Intermediate Apprentice you will be learning the skills and knowledge to carry out the job role of a junior.

Qualifications required

  • Minimum 4 GCSEs or equivalnet Grade D or above to include Maths and English.
  • If minimum conditions are not met, we will consider candidates that demonstrate a clear commitment and aptitude at interview and initial assessment.

Future prospects

May lead to permanent employment for the right candidate on completion of the apprenticeship.

Things to consider

College attendance 1 day a week during term time. Occasionally there may be workshops timetabled during the half terms and holidays. To assist you during your apprenticeship, you may be required to purchase some equipment and resources to support you during your course. The Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage (ANMW): From April 2017 the ANMW was set at £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.
