    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

The ideal candidate will be involved in doing prep work, coming up with new ideas with the chef and implementing the menu.

They will be involved in the maintenance and cleaning of all the equipment in the kitchen along with the other staff.

Your day to day duties will include

  • keeping the kitchen clean and tidy
  • washing up
  • liaising with the chef
  • assisting with the preparation of meals, starters, maincourses and deserts
  • learning how to cook both English and Itallian dishes
  • dealing with fresh ingrediants  - meats, fish, etc

Health and Safety knowledge and minimum standard certs in this field.

Personal qualities

Enthusiastic/Honesty/Reliable/Should have passion for the industry

Qualifications required

Not necessary but NVQ level would be an advantage however full training can be given

Work your way up to Head Chef’s position PRP schemes will be offered to the right candidate

Things to consider

From 1st of April 2017 the National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 or over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. Those between the ages of 19-24 who are in their second year (or third year) need to be paid the National Minimum Wage for their age bracket. In April 2016 the new National Living Wage was implemented and therefore if you are over the age of 25 and in your second or third year of an Apprenticeship you will be entitled to be paid the National Living Wage.
