This well established Sub Contractor is looking to take on an advance apprentice to join their experienced team based in Plymouth and the surrounding area.

The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Intermediate Level Apprenticeship
The apprentice will be working on site 4 days a week which will be supervised at all times. Learning all aspects of Site Bricklaying supervised by experienced and qualified employers. The Apprentice will be working towards the full higher Apprenticeship which includes level 2 and 3 Trowel Occupation qualification.
The successful applicant will be working on all different types of projects. You could be involved in construction of new housing developments, Block-laying and Block and Beaming.
A key part of your Construction apprenticeship is health and safety. This is vital to the industry, with all employees working on-site to have passed the CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme). We will include this as part of your apprenticeship. You will be supervised by a fully qualified member of staff, and you must follow health and safety procedures in the workplace at all times, as well as ensuring that all tools are clean and put away correctly.
Requirements and prospects
They need to be keen to succeed, reliable and hardworking. Ability to cope with the physical demands of the role and able to use their own initiative is essential. The successful candidate will have good listening skills, have the ability to follow instruction well and good coordination skills when trained in college and on-site. They will need to be dedicated, driven and have good personable skills. They will be hard working and interested in learning and making bricklaying a career choice.
The successful applicant must be reliable and motivated to work within the construction trade and undertake national recognised qualifications. They will have good communications skills and able to work as part of a team and take instructions.
Good time keeping as construction workers are on site early in the morning.
No formal qualifications are required for the position but GCSE grades A-E or equivalent is desired. However a keen interest in Bricklaying General building and willingness to succeed are essential.

All level 2 qualifications have the opportunity to progress onto level 3.
As part of the apprenticeship programme, attendance is required at our Skills Group training centre for one day per week. All other aspects of the qualification will be delivered on-site by the employer#. You will have regular visits every six to eight weeks from your designated Skills Group assessor, who will monitor your progress during your apprenticeship training.
Whilst at the Skills Group training centre, you will learn the necessary skills and gain experience to help you throughout your role. Part of your training will be knowledge and theory based, whilst the rest will be practical. You will develop your hand skills, carry out brick and block work, learn the correct use of specific tools, carry out pointing and learn mortar ratio mixes under the guidance of your assessor. Learning all these additional skills will benefit you on returning to the employer.
As an additional qualification you will also achieve your Emergency First Aid and certified Health and Safety Certificates, along with Internet Safety and Safeguarding.
As part of your apprenticeship Skills Group will also support you to complete your online CSCS test, which will enable you to apply for your CSCS Card. This shows that you are at the required competent level to carry out site work with the employer.
